Composer, singer, Grammy and Sama award winner Lebo M, who composed and performed many of the songs for the first Broadway production in New York in 1997, has played a key role in bringing the production to South Africa. He was an original cast member of the debut production on Broadway, and a lot of the songs were based on hisalbum, Rhythm of the Pride Lands, which was inspired by the film.
The Lion King has been seen by 35 million people across the globe - in China, the UnitedStates, Britain, Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany, Holland, and will shortly be staged in South Korea.
Lebo M and theatre impresario Pieter Toerien have collaborated on the production.''I can't tell you how exciting this is,'' said Toerien,
Toerien says the production will bring together ''Lebo's vast experience on The Lion King and my experience in producing Broadway musicals in South Africa – including Cats and Phantom of the Opera''.
According to a Montecasino press release, Lebo M is acknowledged as being ''the voice and spirit behind the show''. He says of the partnership with Toerien: ''My company, Till Dawn, will be responsible for the creative aspects of the production, as well as the casting, marketing and advertising, while Pieter Toerien will be responsible for putting the show together, and handling the financial management and logistics.''

The weather was cold, but the music was hot at three Africa Day concerts over the weekend. From Newtown on Friday night, to Saturday in Alex and a lazy Sunday afternoon in the sun at Mofolo Park in Soweto, what a weekend it was.
HUNDREDS of dedicated party people braved the icy weather on Friday evening to dance the night away in Newtown.
The free Africa Day concert, on Friday, 25 May, was held in the open air at Mary Fitzgerald Square. It was the first of three free Africa Day shows held over the weekend to showcase the best of African music and culture.
Wrapped up in their warmest clothes, people packed the square - but soon discarded their jackets and jerseys when the music started. Braziers, placed strategically around the square, kept the rest of the cold at bay.

sweet night turned sour

It was a sweet night in Mamelodi just after the national pride 'Die Bokke' lift the most lucritive tittle in world Rugby. Mams as it is known to it's fun loving residents was abuzz with vuvuzelas and hooters from happy motorists. everyone was wearing their bokke shirts celebrating like the day we were coronating the the first ever black president 'MANDELA'. As we are used to celebrating every glorious moment our country goes through, blowing the vuvuzelas, singing the shosholoza song of victory and spinning of cars was the order of the night. 'it was one hell of a night ' they say. Pity not everybody was happy till the wee hours of the morning as the celebrations claimed three lifes at Maseko taxi rank and shopping centre. The three were traveling in a red citi golf and saw the proceedings at a traffic circle in Maseko and joined in. the driver spinned his red beauty two round before head hitting the advancing microbus kombi.paramedics were called but it was late for the two occupants of the golf and the minibus driver.
